Astrology and marriage

Usually,
Guy loves a girl, girl loves a guy and they marry

In traditional families in India,
Guy loves a girl, girl seldom responds. ;)
Even if girl loves boy, their families do not accept.
Even if the couple gets past their families, there is a "science" called astrology, which blocks the way.

I am surprised by the confidence astrologers have in their predictions. While I am trying hard to get married with the girl I love (Tuti Manjan), I suffer huge resistance from our horoscope matching. I would rather term it as "horror scope". Recently my parents took me to an astrologer and he along with other elderly guys bombarded me with all the negativities in the world. I remember a few of them:
  1. Either of us will die after marriage. Mostly it would be me
  2. We will not have any child
  3. We will get separated in mere 18 months. Astrologer was more than eager to write on stamp paper
  4. Even if I marry, he will not do the marriage rituals for us. It will bring him curse and bad omen!
After this, it became even more difficult to convince my parents. I do not say that astrology is not a science, but it is not practiced as it should be. I have seen so many predictions falling down that I feel that astrology is a totally random speculation. I consulted couple of other astrologers including the online ones and the results were not same. They were vastly different and the credit goes to my girlfriend (Tuti) for finding it out for me. She did a 2 hour crash course in astrology and found so many "valid" flaws. And trust me we went to different astrologers just to get different opinions.
I wish our society can rise above all the hypocrisies and not just believe whatever an astrologer or a "pandit" has to say. But for now, I continue my struggle as I did for last 4 years! The change is that I now need to wear a gem (moonga) and also need to fast every tuesday without eating salt.
Wish me luck!
